Silver Surfers Technology Coaching
This program is FREE with in-person and virtual options
Seniors work with coaches twice a week for three months to learn how to navigate the internet and feel more at home with technology. Coaches teach seniors how to use tools including:
- Wi-Fi
- Zoom
- Telehealth
- Apps
- and more!
Program participants must:
- Be 60 or older
- Be willing to commit to 2 Sessions a week for about 3 months.
- Have access to a Wireless Connection (Wi-Fi)
- Have a Tablet or Desktop/Laptop with a camera (a device may be provided by Senior Services for those in need)
Silver Surfers began as a collaborative effort to offset the risks of social isolation by helping older adults learn to use technology. Senior Services, PrimePlus Senior Centers, Westminster-Canterbury Senior Living Community, Eastern Virginia Medical School, and the Birdsong Foundation joined forces to create the HealthWise Connectivity Project.
Now called Silver Surfers, the program’s goal is the same, and Senior Services still benefits from the support of EVMS and PrimePlus as it helps seniors get connected across South Hampton Roads and Western Tidewater.
We’re in need of coaches!
We’re always looking for volunteer coaches to help older adults learn technology. If you are interested in being a Silver Surfers Coach, submit a volunteer application today.
