DAF FAQ

What is a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)?

A Donor-Advised Fund is a charitable giving account established through a sponsoring organization that allows donors to recommend grants to nonprofits they care about.

Why do donors choose to give through a DAF?

Donors often choose Donor-Advised Funds because they offer:

  • immediate tax benefits
  • flexibility
  • a simple way to manage charitable giving
  • When a donor contributes to a DAF, they receive a charitable tax deduction in the year the
contribution is made, but they can support nonprofit organizations with those funds any
time they choose. This approach allows donors to plan their giving thoughtfully, streamline
recordkeeping, and support the causes they care about.
Can I support Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia through my DAF?

Absolutely. Senior Services welcomes gifts from donor-advised funds and appreciates the flexibility and impact they provide.

Which DAF administrators are accepted?

Senior Services can receive gifts from most major DAF-sponsoring organizations, including national providers and community foundations.

How do I recommend a gift from my DAF?

Donors can recommend a gift directly through Senior Services’ online donation form.Simply select “DAF Pay” as your payment option, choose your Donor-Advised Fund
provider, and log in to your DAF account to submit your recommendation. The process is secure, simple, and can be completed in just a few steps.

How long does it take for a DAF gift to be received?

When a donor recommends a gift using DAF Pay, the recommendation is recorded immediately, and Senior Services is notified right away. The actual transfer of funds from the Donor-Advised Fund typically takes one to several weeks, depending on the donor’s DAF provider. Once the gift is received, our team will acknowledge the contribution.

Will my name be included with my DAF gift?

In most cases, donor information is shared with Senior Services when the Donor-Advised Fund issues the gift. If you prefer to give anonymously, you can select that option directly through your Donor-Advised Fund provider when submitting your gift recommendation. Your DAF provider will then issue the gift without including your name or contact information.

Can my DAF gift be designated for a specific program?

Unrestricted gifts provide Senior Services with the flexibility to address the organization’s most urgent needs and support programs and services where they are needed most.

Designated gifts may be accepted when the donor’s intended purpose aligns with the organization’s mission and operational capacity. Donors interested in providing specific instructions for their gift are encouraged to contact the Development Officer to discuss available options.
