Meal Delivery Driver – Better Together Cafés

What You’ll Do:

  • Pick up meals from our vendor site and deliver them to a designated site
  • Greet staff or recipients warmly
  • Return food delivery coolers and bags to the vendor site
  • Report any issues with delivery

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle, preferably an SUV or van for trunk
    space
  • Able to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Friendly, punctual, dependable

Time Commitment:

  • 4 days per month minimum; volunteers are asked to commit to a consistent, weekly schedule, delivering meals on the same day each week.

Ideal for:

  • Students, retirees, and those seeking service hours
Silver Surfers Coach – Tech Help for Seniors

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead or assist small groups in-person or provide one-on-one coaching sessions virtually
  • Teach seniors how to use devices like smartphones or tablets
  • Offer practical guidance on apps, online safety, and troubleshooting basic tech issues

Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of technology and devices
  • Patience and excellent communication skills
  • Friendly and encouraging attitude

Time Commitment:
Two sessions per week, each lasting up to two hours, for the first four weeks. Following this, virtual sessions will be scheduled based on your availability for the remaining eight weeks.

Front Desk Receptionist – Norfolk & Franklin

  • Welcome and direct visitors
  • Answer and transfer calls
  • Handle mail and deliveries
  • Keep the reception area tidy

Requirements:

  • Friendly, organized, good communicator
  • Basic computer and phone skills
  • Customer service experience a plus

Time Commitment:

  • 1–2 weekday shifts/week (4 hours each) at both the Norfolk and Franklin locations.

Medicare Benefits Counselor

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide accurate, confidential, and unbiased information about Medicare benefits and related programs
  • Assist individuals in comparing plans and understanding coverage
  • Document sessions and stay updated on Medicare policies (training provided)

Requirements:

  • Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to explain complex information clearly and patiently
  • Access to a laptop and willingness to use Google Voice
  • Complete training and certification (VICAP)

Time Commitment:

4 hours per week are expected during the training and certification process. During the open enrollment period, weekly hours may increase, with flexible scheduling based on client needs.

Senior Advocate Ombudsman

  • Make regular visits to assigned long-term care facilities
  • Build relationships with residents and listen to their experiences and concerns
  • Advocate for residents’ rights and help resolve complaints
  • Submit required reports to the local Ombudsman
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and detailed documentation of cases
  • Maintain a good working relationship with facility staff

Requirements:

  • Compassionate, patient, and a good listener
  • Ability to remain neutral and respectful in sensitive situations
  • Must complete two- to three-day state-mandated Ombudsman training

Time Commitment:

A one-year commitment of approximately 4 hours per week is required, with flexibility in scheduling visits
