Each year, Senior Services provides shelf-stable meals to seniors who receive Meals on Wheels in our service area and are at risk during emergency situations. These emergency preparedness meals are for the seniors to put in their pantry in case their regularly delivered meals are missed due to emergency weather such as hurricanes or winter storms.
This year, VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads generously included Senior Services in its Family Volunteer Day event supporting the community. With their support and organization, the volunteers and corporate sponsors at Family VOLUNTEER Day put together 400 Emergency Preparedness Kits to prepare seniors for winter storms. These kits include chapstick, tissues, water bottles, flashlights with batteries, and more! In addition to the kits, the volunteers also created 400 sock cupcakes wrapped with ribbon for seniors at our wellness centers.
Thank you to VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads, Allfirst, Checkered Flag, Lincoln Financial Advisors, Aerotek, and Anthem for their generous donations to create these kits and sock cupcakes!
And a huge "THANKS" to the volunteers pictured below for their efforts in transporting all the kits back to our office! This was a huge effort that went smoothly and quickly with their support! Thank you!
Be sure to save the date for Family VOLUNTEER Day 2019 – Saturday, November 24.
