Officials with the Hampton Roads Community Foundation announced Wednesday the recipients of the organization's more than $1 million in college scholarships, the largest amount awarded in a single year since its founding in 1950.
The scholarships went to more than 358 students, attending more than 65 colleges. HRCF has provided more than $18 million in scholarships since its founding.
The organization also awarded more than $1.1 million in grants to 11 nonprofit organizations working in health and human services. Recipients include Beach Health Clinic, Chesapeake Care, Endependence Center, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, The Healing Place, Judeo-Christian Outreach Center, Samaritan House, Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia, The Up Center, Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness, and Volunteers of America Chesapeake.
