HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (July 15, 2015) – Gary Barg, a nationally renowned caregiver advocate, author of “The Fearless Caregiver” book and founder and editor of Today’s Caregiver magazine, is the keynote speaker at the 2015 “The Art of Healthy Aging Forum and Expo” presented by Anthem Healthkeepers and Commonwealth Coordinated Care, Friday, Oct. 9, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000 19th St., Virginia Beach, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As part of the keynote address, Barg moderates a panel discussion with local senior advocates featuring caregiver support professionals and a family caregiver. The program features “A Salute to Caregivers” recognition based on an annual essay contest sponsored by JenCare Neighborhood Medical Centers. “The Art of Healthy Aging Forum and Expo” is an annual, signature event produced by Senior Service of Southeastern Virginia (SSSEVA) expecting to draw 300 to 500 people.
This year’s theme, “Fearless Caregiving” was determined in response to feedback from attendee’s at last year’s forum, wanting information and supports for caregivers.
“We heard this request over and over again,” said Senior Services Director of Development and Community Relations, Debbie Schwartz. “Caregivers are special people, whether they are family members or professionals. They devote their time and energy to ensure the health and welfare of another person, while sometimes neglecting their own well-being. We want to help caregivers find more strength and balance in the great work that they do.”
