At the 42nd n4a Annual Conference in Savannah this week, a number of attendees were presented with awards. We were thrilled to honor so many leaders and innovators in the Aging Network!
The n4a Excellence in Leadership Award was presented at the conference to Jonathan Lavin, CEO of AgeOptions in Oak Park, IL. n4a members submit nominations for this Award to recognize AAA and Title VI directors who have demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities at the local, state or national level in advancing the mission of the Older Americans Act and preparing communities for our nation’s rapidly aging population.
n4a President Kathy Boles presented the President’s Award to Billie Johnson, President and CEO of the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc. in Toledo, OH. This Award is presented annually by the n4a President to honor a colleague in the aging field who has helped advance the mission of n4a.
We also honored 52 local aging programs created by 44 of our member agencies with the 2017 n4a Aging Innovations and Achievement Awards. The awards program, sponsored by WellCare Health Plans, Inc., recognizes AAAs and Title VI programs that have implemented successful initiatives to support older adults, people with disabilities and family caregivers. The Awards were presented at a luncheon and, thanks to the generous support of WellCare, the four top-ranking programs received monetary awards: Mountain Empire Older Citizens, Inc., Greater Lynn Senior Services, New York City Department for the Aging and United Way’s Area Agency on Aging of Tarrant County. n4a's Aging and Disability Business Institute, on behalf of The John A. Hartford Foundation, presented The John A. Hartford Business Innovation Award to Virginia Area Agencies on Aging – Caring for the Commonwealth (VAAACares). Finalist and runner-up to VAAACares is the Living Well Center of Excellence located at Maintaining Active Citizens (MAC, Inc.), with Aroostook Agency on Aging also receiving an honorable mention. This award recognizes community-based organizations that have made significant strides in contracting with health care entities and, as such, have substantially improved the quality of life of older adults.
Congratulations to all the winners!
