Businesses can contribute goods, services and real estate in lieu of cash gifts.

Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP)

The Virginia Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) was established in 1981 to encourage businesses and individuals to make donations to approved non-profit organizations for the benefit of serving low-income persons. The program allows the donor the opportunity to receive NAP tax credits equal to 65% of the qualifying donation. NAP tax credits are realized when the donor files a Virginia State Income Tax return.

Criteria are as follows:

Individual Donations

  • Cash (Check or *Credit Card)
  • Marketable Securities
  • Minimum Donation Amount = $500
  • Minimum State Tax Credit = $325
  • A maximum limit of $50,000.00 in tax credits per individual or married persons per taxable year. (=$76,923 donation)
  • Tax Credit = 65% of the value of the donation
  • Individuals may be able to claim the donation on their Federal tax return as a charitable contribution.
  • Five year carry forward
    *Credit cards are acceptable if the receiver organization can process credit cards.

Business Donations

  • Minimum Donation Value = $616
  • Maximum Donation Value = $269,231
  • Minimum State Tax Credit = $400
  • Maximum State Tax Credit = $175,000
  • Tax Credit = 65% of the value of the donation
  • Five year carry forward
  • Businesses and organizations can donate merchandise, services, or real estate in lieu of cash gifts. Please visit the NAP Website for more specific information.

Trust Donations
*Must follow all business donation rules

  • Minimum Donation Value = $616
  • Maximum Donation Value = $269,231
  • Minimum State Tax Credit = $400
  • Maximum State Tax Credit = $175,000
  • Tax Credit = 65% of the value of the donation
  • Five year carry forward
