In 2013, Senior Services staff and volunteer drivers delivered 112,589 meals to homebound seniors?

Volunteer Drivers

There are many seniors 60+ and adults with disabilities living in communities throughout South Hampton Roads and Western Tidewater who do not have family members living nearby to help. These people simply need a bit of assistance so that they can continue to live in their own homes. They can no longer drive to the grocery store or prepare complicated meals on their own. They need to go to doctors’ appointments, but have no one to take them. They depend on Senior Services and their friendly corps of volunteer drivers.

Our volunteer drivers are individual community members with a penchant for helping others; employees of local businesses who want to lend a helping hand; and members of the military who want to give something back to the communities they now call home.

Volunteer DriversThey deliver frozen meals, liquid nutrition and the shelf stable meals necessary to have on hand in case of an emergency. They drive seniors to and from scheduled medical appointments. Their presence provides the reassurance of a familiar face and someone who cares.

Schedules are extremely flexible, and designed around individual needs...once a week or once a month, whatever works for you. Many volunteer meal drivers work at jobs during the week, and then deliver meals on the weekends.
