Ombudsman Program

When you have questions and concerns about nursing home, assisted living facilities, adult care service or home health care service, you need answers. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman works with residents, families and agencies to address problem issues and concerns. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman is empowered through the Code of Virginia to access residents’ records and conduct appropriate interviews when formal complaints are made.

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman also works with licensing, certification and other regulatory/enforcement agencies in investigating and resolving resident complaints. Senior Services administers the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program for the region. The Ombudsmen can also mediate issues and concerns between you and your provider such as quality of life and care, as well as residents’ rights. They also provide counseling and community education on such topics as long-term care services, aging-related issues, residents’ rights and quality-of-care.

There is no eligibility requirement other than that your issue must involve a nursing home, an assisted living facility or a home health agency providing long-term care.

No fee: This is a free service.
