Educational Programs


Senior Services offers the following programs designed to help adults 55+ manage the symptoms of chronic disease and help with balance to prevent falls. These programs are open to the public. Registration is required. To register for these workshops or for more information, please call Venisha Lambert at (757) 461-9481, unless otherwise noted.

Chronic Disease Self Management Program

Helps participants live healthier and more independently by small group discussion, problem solving, and setting small goals. CDSMP helps you make lifestyle modifications and not allowing your chronic condition to rule your life.

Diabetes Self Management Program

Information on menu planning, proper diet and carbohydrate intake, blood sugar levels, and sick days. Diabetics will help themselves and others by learning helpful techniques, problem solving, group discussion, and setting goals.

A Matter of Balance Program

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.
