Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program
May 19 through June 5, seniors who reside in Norfolk, Franklin, Suffolk, and Isle of Wight and
Southampton counties may register for the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program that provides
eligible seniors with $40 in “checks” they can redeem at participating farmer’s markets and roadside
produce stands from July 1 through Oct. 31, 2008. Participants must be 60 years or older with an income
level of approximately $19,240 annually for one-person households or $25,000 annually for two-person households.
Those who qualify receive $40 in “checks” from their designated Wellness Center. They can use the checks to
shop for locally grown produce at participating farmer’s markets and roadside stands. Applications will be
accepted by telephone only on a first come, first served basis.

Senior Services New MedCare Access Program
Seniors and people with disabilities who need “Extra Help” have a new place to turn in the Western Tidewater area.
Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia has begun operating the new MedCare Access program, serving residents of
Franklin, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County and Suffolk.
MedCare Access will help locate and assist
income-eligible “extra help” beneficiaries who have questions about the Medicare Part D prescription drug
benefit or who need help selecting a plan. Individuals can also use the program to connect to an array of
services, such as meal delivery to those who are homebound and transportation and wellness programs.
